The Shedd Institute announces the concert schedule for the 18th annual season of it resident jazz & classic American Songbook ensemble, The Emerald City Jazz Kings. Under the baton of music director Jesse Cloninger and regular guest artistic director Shirley Andress, The Jazz Kings produce 4 original concerts each year on various themes pertinent to the historic popular music and jazz of the 1920s through ‘50s, with performances in Eugene, Florence and Corvallis.
The 2013-14 Jazz Kings season includes At The Jazz Band Ball, an survey of early jazz from the Original Dixie Land Jazz Band to Louis Armstrong (October 10-19, 2013), Give Me A Song, a tribute to songbook composer Jule Styne created by Shirley Andress (February 12-18, 2014), and Bésame Mucho, a celebration of "the Latin tinge", as Jelly Roll Morton referred to it, in American popular music (May 2-11, 2014).
And, as always, we’re pleased to present Shirley Andress’ fabulous, heartwarming Jazz Kings Christmas, this year entitled Button Up Your Overcoat, slated for 2 performances in Eugene, December 12th & 15th with performances in Corvallis and Florence on December 17th and 18th respectively. It will be another great year of simply awesome music.
Florence patrons, please note that this year all of our Jazz Kings offerings at the Florence Events Center, except the Christmas show, will be on Saturdays at 1:30 pm.
