The Shedd Institute announces the concert schedule for the 17th annual season of it resident jazz & classic American Songbook ensemble, The Emerald City Jazz Kings. This season, The Jazz Kings welcome saxophonist and longtime Jazz Kings, OFAM and Shedd favorite Jesse Cloninger as their new director. The Jazz Kings produce 3 to 4 original concerts each year on various themes pertinent to the historic popular music and jazz of the 1920s through ‘50s, with performances in Eugene, Florence and Corvallis.
The 2012-13 Jazz Kings season includes The Very Thought Of You, a celebration of the music of British composer and bandleader Ray Noble (October 11-19), Flying Home, a tribute to the King of Swing, Benny Goodman (February 7-15, 2013), and You Made Me Love You, an exploration led by Jazz Kings lead singer Shirley Andress of the life and music of Judy Garland (May 9-17, 2013).
In addition to this great package, we’re pleased to present Shirley Andress’ fabulous, heartwarming Jazz Kings Christmas, this year entitled Let It Snow!, slated for 2 performances in Eugene, December 6th & 9th with performances in Florence and Corvallis on December 11th and 13th respectively. It will be another great year of simply awesome music.
