Michael Anderson continues his mission of setting all of Beethoven’s symphonies for chamber ensemble with microphilharmonic’s premier of his chamber arrangements of two of Beethoven’s best: his Symphony No. 1 in C Major, Op. 21 and his Symphony No. 5 in C minor, Op. 67. Written between 1790 and 1799, Symphony No. 1 was premiered at a concert Beethoven organized and conducting in Vienna on April 2, 1800. One of the best-known compositions in Classical music and one of the most frequently played, Symphony No 5 (The Fate Symphony) was composed between 1804 and 1808 and premiered along with Beethoven’s Symphony No 6 at a famously understaffed and poorly-performed charity concert in the massive and very cold Theater an der Wien on December 22, 1808.
