Childe Hassam (1859-1935), one of America’s foremost impressionists and this August’s featured artist, is perhaps best known for his Paris street scenes, East Coast landscapes, and World War I-era flag series. But Hassam also painted in Oregon at the invitation of Portland pioneer, Charles Erskin Scott Wood. Ed Bingham, expanding on his recent book Wood Works: The Life and Writings of C. E. S. Wood, will explore Hassam’s unexpected Oregon connection.
