Like every other genre in the motion picture industry, animation studios used popular song features and song-laced underscoring extensively and to wonderful effect. For this afternoon's concert, Ken and company are joined by Michael Stone and Clairdee for a fine assortment of 1930s and early '40s cartoon music. Look for great songs made famous by the Fleischer Brothers, Walt Disney and Warner Brothers such as "Give A Little Whistle", "I Love To Singa", "Minnie The Moocher", "Swing You Sinners", "I'll Be Glad When You're Dead, You Rascal You", "Sally Swing", and "When You Wish Upon A Star". Ken pays special tribute to composer Raymond Scott, whose quirky tunes like "Twilight In Turkey", "Powerhouse" and "The Toy Trumpet" were interpolated into cartoon underscoring extensively by almost everyone and were even sung by Shirley Temple!
