Dorothy Hammerstein once famously corrected her dinner partner, "No, Oscar wrote 'Ol' Man River' -- Jerome Kern only wrote 'Dum-dum-dum-dum'." This was certainly true, but, we would add, this was to both of their credit, and to the credit of the magic that consistently happened between two masters in the cauldron of their craft. Jerome Kern (1885-1945) was certainly that: a master of the art of the melody that could at once inspire and carry the best of lyrics, be they by Oscar Hammerstein II, Guy Bolton, P. G. Wodehouse, Otto Harbach, Dorothy Fields, or Johnny Mercer.
Jesse Cloninger and company offer up a fine selection of the best of Jerome Kern, over his long career, including such classics as "All The Things You Are", "The Way You Look Tonight", "A Fine Romance", "Pick Yourself Up", "Long Ago And Far Away", "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes", "I Won't Dance", "The Song Is You", and more.
