Since beginning their collaboration in 1989, violinist Fritz Gearhart and pianist John Owings have always championed the works of American composers on their concert tours as well as in their recordings. Frequent performers on some of America’s most celebrated concert stages, including Carnegie Hall, Gearhart and Owings bring their considerable talents to The Shedd’s Jaqua Concert Hall in a unique program of seldom-heard American masterworks that will include Amy Beach’s 1896 Sonata for Violin & Piano, William Grant Still’s Pastorela, Norman Dello Joio’s Variations and Capriccio, and pieces by other early-to-mid-century American composers.
