M ichael Anderson and microphilharmonic welcome renowned pianist and Liszt scholar Alexandre Dossin for the opening of their 10th season with a program which features Mozart and Beethoven's respective Quintets for piano and winds in E flat Major scored for piano, oboe, clarinet, horn and bassoon, and two transcriptions for solo piano by Franz Liszt of short pieces written by Beethoven to texts by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Mozart premiered his quintet (K. 452) at the Imperial and Royal National Court Theater in Vienna on April 2, 1784. Beethoven premiered his version (Op. 16) on April 6th 12 years later, just as he was setting out on his voyage of symphonic composition. Although it is said to have been modeled on Mozart’s, Beethoven’s is as different as similar to the earlier work.
