The inimitable Chuck Redd returns to The Shedd for another evening of great music making...this year focusing on Swing in honor of The Jazz Kings' 20th anniversary "Year of Swing" and this summer's 25th anniversary Oregon Festival of American Music, which will be dedicated to the greatest of the Swing Years. This, of course, won't break Chuck's heart in the least, as for him, well, Swing's the thing!
Chuck's included numbers by Basie, Dorsey, Shaw, Miller, Ellington, Goodman, Krupa, Hampton as well as a few of the vocal hits of the big band era. He writes, "My father who was a WWII vet, loved swing and big band music and that was the first music I heard when I was growing up. In our house, my father was constantly playing recordings of Goodman, Lunceford, Basie, Krupa, Hampton and others. I have always associated this music with joy and excitement. Being a jazz musician, I am firm believer that jazz should "swing"! I love this music and I always enjoy shining a fresh light on it."
Joining Chuck will be Randy Porter on piano, Tom Wakeling on bass, and Todd Strait on drums
