Doug is recently retired from his 30 year career with Pacific Source Health Plans. In his tenure at PacificSource he was involved in many facets of the medical insurance industry. He served as both the President and Legislative chair for both the Oregon Association of Health Underwriters and the Willamette Valley Association of Health Underwriters. He also served as board Chair for Junior Achievement of Western Oregon, on the board of directors for the Museum of Natural and Cultural History at the University of Oregon, and on the Springfield Gateway Development Committee overseen by the Springfield Chamber of Commerce.
Doug enjoys fishing and hunting and spends most, if not all, of his vacation time either beachcombing or at his friends’ working cattle ranch over at Fields, OR. Doug’s love for the Oregon Coast and the Oregon Desert were instilled at a young age and he has never felt the need to leave this beautiful state to vacation elsewhere. He loves to fish and hunt and to experience the out of doors firsthand.
Why The Shedd?
I first experienced The Shedd about 15 years ago when my mom and dad invited me to the Oregon Festival of American Music and I’ve been hooked ever since. Since that first run of shows, I’ve been to countless performances highlighting some of the foremost musicians and entertainers in the world, many of whom have become household names and friends. The intimacy of the shows at The Shedd are what help make the place special to me. Also, growing up in a household filled with music really instilled upon me the importance of music in all of our lives and especially in the lives of children. Because of this, I have a soft spot in my heart for the many students of The Shedd’s music school who can’t afford pay for their own music lessons. The Shedd really does a wonderful deed in the countless scholarships it awards every year to their music students who would otherwise not get to experience their dreams of playing an instrument or performing on stage.
I recently attended the Herb Alpert and Lani Hall show at The Shedd and Herb made a comment that really resonated with me and it went something like this: “You may not remember all of the songs tonight but if you can remember ‘the feeling’ you had when we were performing, then that’s what it’s all about.” The Shedd truly has a “feeling” about it that is hard to put into words but if you attend any event or show there, you’ll know what I mean; it’s that special, warm, magical feeling you get when you’re doing something you really love.
