Never one to shy away from a challenge, trumpeter Dave Douglas has successfully fused jazz, funk, non-Western music, and even techno into his vast musical repertoire. Keystone, Douglas' new project, features new compositions inspired by the great and unfairly maligned Roscoe 'Fatty' Arbuckle, one of America's earliest and funniest movie stars. Focusing on his early works for the Keystone production company (1915-1916), the new music attempts to mirror the humor and drama, the tragedy and hilarity of Arbuckle's films and his life. The electrified scores are warm, funny, funky, and experimental - capturing the atmosphere of the films. They will be performed simultaneously with the films projected behind the band, an electric sextet of trumpet, saxophone, Wurlitzer organ, electric bass, drums, and turntables.
