The "First rhythm & blues singer," Ruth Brown is a musical pioneer, an icon and an American treasure. Known for her torchy, church- and jazz-schooled voice, she helped build Atlantic Records into an R&B powerhouse during the 1950s. She returns to OFAM for the first time since 1999, assisted by OFAM’s Jazz Director Dick Hyman on piano, the voice and trumpet of Byron Stripling, and a host of local jazz giants.
