A growing number of listeners and musicians have come to appreciate long-time Portland composer, lyricist and pianist Dave Frishberg (1933-2021) for his wit and lyrical settings on a whimsical range of songs, including, for example "I'm Hip", "I Want To Be A Sideman", "Do You Miss New York", and "Peel Me A Grape". So it's understandable that most recordings of his music feature vocalists (including, notably, Blossom Dearie, Rosemary Clooney, Anita O'Day, Shirley Horn and Diana Krall). The Randy Porter Trio pay instrumental tribute…Frishberg "Unsung" as Porter puts it. “Perhaps by now,” Randy suggests, “we can sense his message through the melody, the humor through the harmony, and the rhyming through the rhythm, not unlike his predecessors of the Great American songbook.”
The Porter Trio is Randy Porter (piano), Patrick Golichnik (bass) and Todd Strait (drums).
