Miles Davis (May 26, 1926-Sep 28, 1991) accomplished something very difficult: he was both popular with the public and innovative as an artist. He not only recorded a legendary 5X-platinum record (Kind of Blue), but also was arguably the most-influential small-group jazz bandleader of his time. Davis exerted influence both through his own artistic vision and through the vision of the talented musicians he chose for his bands. Known for being in the forefront of many of jazz’s stylistic developments, Davis said, “I’ve changed music five or six times.” For this matinee show, Woideck and friends will revisit Davis classics from the 1940s through the 1960s such as “So What,” “Boplicity,” “Nefertiti,” “Tune Up,” and much more.
Carl Woideck is joined by Keith Brown (piano), Robert Lassila (bass), Ken Mastrogiovanni (drums) and Paul Krueger (trumpet) in this tribute to Miles Davis on the 98th anniversary of his birth.
Main floor seating in Jaqua Concert Hall will be cabaret with a bar in Tykeson Lobby.
