Brazilian composer/guitarists Zé Paulo Becker and Nando Duarte have been brought together by Brazilian guitar aficionado and longstanding Shedd Brazilian music consultant David Lippincott for a residency culminating with this evening's very special collaboration.
A longstanding member of the choro group Trio Madeira Brasil, Brazilian Music Award winner Zé Paulo Becker has performed in more than 20 countries in his solo career and has played and recorded with Ney Matogrosso, Elza Soares, Chico Buarque, Yamandú Costa, Wagner Tiso, Francis Hime, Zé Renato, Marcos Sacramento among others. He is a professor at the Federal University of Juiz de Fora (MG).
As a seven-string guitarist, Nando Duarte recorded and played live performances with stars like Melody Gardot, the band Empire of the Sun, and many acclaimed Brazilian musicians as Gal Costa, Zélia Duncan and Yamandu Costa. Besides a long record of producing and arranging concerts, recordings and musical theatre, Nando was Musical Director of Elza Soares (named Singer of the Millennium by BBC Radio) before relocating from his hometown Rio to LA.
