The Shedd Institute is pleased to bring Grammy Award-winning Wynton Marsalis and his acclaimed Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra back to the Hult Center's Silva Concert Hall, Wednesday, March 5. For this evening, Mr. Marsalis has programmed the music of Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington, and Mary Lou Williams.
Composed of today’s finest jazz soloists and ensemble players, JALC ranks as one of the world’s leading large jazz ensembles. The exciting program will be drawn from its vast repertoire that includes original compositions by Mr. Marsalis, Ted Nash, and other members of the orchestra, as well as the masterworks of Ellington, Mingus, Coltrane, and other great jazz composers. From swinging to supple, sophisticated to spirited, it’s all sheer jazz perfection.
Led by Marsalis, the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra has performed hundreds of shows to people of all ages on over six continents. The Orchestra is composed of 15 of the most accomplished soloists, ensemble players and arrangers in jazz music today. Marsalis has been described by many as a not only a brilliant composer, but also the most outstanding jazz musician and trumpeter of his generation. He is also a tireless educator and advocate for the Arts.
