Shedd Institute jazz aficionados know Jeremy Pelt from his brilliant sets at our 2007 and 2008 Jazz Parties, if not from his stellar work throughout the world (he has been voted Rising Star on the trumpet five years in a row by DownBeat Magazine). Pelt will be back again for Jazz Party at The Shedd 2009 (March 6-8), but in the meantime, catch him at The Shedd with his Quintet, which is touring in support of the just released, critically-acclaimed CD, November. "Pelt's quintet", writes Jim Santella at All About Jazz, "engages in an emotional outpouring on November, nine originals delivered with grace and charm. Serious and melancholy for the most part, Pelt's program lifts spirits through its free-flowing melodies." "Trumpeter Pelt's latest quintet recording," writes Glenn Whipp of The San Diego Union Tribune, "displays his usual penchant for making the old sound new and exhilaratingly alive."
Joining Pelt will be JD Allen (tenor sax), Danny Grissett (piano), Dwayne Burno (bass), and Gerald Cleaver (drums).
