Siri Vik, soprano
Michael Anderson and company welcome soprano Siri Vik for an evening of mid-century American masterpieces: Samuel Barber’s 1953 Summer Music; Igor Stravinsky’s Concerto in E-flat Dumbarton Oaks (1938); and three works for voice and ensemble featuring soprano: Aaron Copland’s 1923 setting of Elizabethan poet Richard Barnsworth’s “As It Fell Upon A Day”, Barber’s flat out magnificent 1947 setting of novelist-poet James Agee’s 1938 prose poem Knoxville: Summer of 1915, and Susannah’s stunning aria “The Trees On The Mountain” from Carlisle Floyd’s 1955 opera Susannah. Jazz & The Songbook
We dedicate Oregon Festival of American Music 2025 (both Winter and Summer) to an exploration of the relationship between jazz and the Classic Songbook, which, of course, has always provided the lion’s share of the musical source material upon which jazz musicians base their art. At this Winter’s kick-off, Chuck Redd and company begin that journey with 4 concerts which each focus on the works of a Songbook composer who were especially popular: Richard Rodgers, Harold Arlen, George Gershwin and Cole Porter. The new North Entrance
The Soreng-Dobson Challenge
to support our new North Entrance!
As you might have noticed, we are in the middle of remodeling the entire north wing of our building! In March we completed the NW Quadrant. In April we began remodeling the NE Quadrant, featuring a new accessible, curbless North Entrance which, together with a new elevator, will make it possible for everyone to get to the ticket office and music school receptionist without having to use stairs!
Longtime Shedd supporters Betty Soreng and Eben Dobson are helping the effort with a challenge: they will match all gifts & pledges to the North Entrance Capital Fund up to $500,000! Help us meet that challenge by donating online here or by contacting Ginevra at 541.434.7002 or gralph@theshedd.net. The Shedd Institute is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation. Our Tax ID is 93-1045304.
